What is the Alexander Technique?
It’s easier to say what the Alexander Technique is not: it is not like yoga, pilates or osteopathy. It is not posture training and there are no exercises.
The Alexander Technique teaches us to recognise habitual patterns we have built up over the years and to make new, constructive choices about the ways in which we think and move. When we make these choices movement becomes lighter, more balanced and more enjoyable, thinking becomes clearer, and our interactions with the world around us become direct and natural .
The Alexander Technique teaches us to take responsibility for ourselves. Some people may not want this approach, preferring someone to “fix them up”, or to teach them to hold themselves up and pull their shoulders back. However most people find the Alexander Technique’s unique approach instantly rewarding, surprising and enjoyable, and that, unlike a quick-fix cure, it offers a steady way of making real and lasting change. The Alexander Technique is an invaluable resource for mental and physical well-being.
