What is the Alexander Technique?
It's easier to say what the Alexander Technique is not: it is not like yoga, pilates or osteopathy. It is not posture training and there are no exercises.
The Alexander Technique teaches us to recognise habitual patterns we have built up over the years and to make new constructive choices about the ways in which we think and move. When we make these choices movement becomes lighter, more balanced and more enjoyable, thinking becomes clearer, and our interactions with the world around us become direct and natural .
The Alexander Technique teaches us to take responsibility for ourselves. For most people the unique approach is instantly rewarding, surprising and enjoyable, offering a steady way of making a real and lasting change. Some people may not want this approach, preferring someone to "fix them up", or to teach them to hold themselves up and pull their shoulders back: the Alexander Technique may not be a quick-fix cure, but it is an invaluable resource for mental and physical well-being.
If you're in doubt or would like to find out more, you can contact me to arrange a free 20 minute 'taster' session. This will give you an opportunity to find out how I work, how you might benefit and to ask any questions you might have.
